I have observed an increasing number of articles in the national press about the growth of “life settlement” products. This development is troubling as this industry has historically been plagued with financial problems and consumer complaints in Florida. While newspapers like the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have focused on Wall Street’s interest in securitizing these arrangements, as Florida Insurance Commissioner I am more concerned with educating Florida’s seniors about the risks of these products.
